is Psyco-Sonic Popsicle

One person, one home studio, no compromises — the story behind the fuzzed-out fever dream.

Taylor Webster has been building songs out of whatever room he's standing in since he was a kid in Mayodan, North Carolina — his mother teaching him piano, his father putting a three-string bass in his hands before he could reach a full-size one. That early, homemade approach to music never really left him.

At Western Carolina University he split his training between classical guitar and marching percussion — the pit, mallets and all — an odd pairing that turned out to be the whole toolkit: harmony from one side, rhythm from the other, and the ability to sit down at guitar, drums, keys, or a mic and just go. He spent the '90s cycling through a run of Piedmont-area bands — post-punk trios, alt-rock covers outfits, whatever configuration of friends was around — cutting his teeth on Fugazi, Sonic Youth, and Jimi Hendrix before he had any real recording gear to speak of.

Psyco-Sonic Popsicle is what happens when all of that gets pointed inward. It's a solo recording project, written, tracked, mixed, and mastered alone in a home studio (Psyco-Sonic Sound Labs) with nobody else's compromises in it — indie psychedelic rock built from '90s alt-rock and post-punk bones, closer in spirit to Sonic Youth's tuning and Archers of Loaf's angles than anything radio-shaped. Every release goes out independently, direct to every major streaming platform, no label in between.
